Diabetes

Diabetes is a lifelong condition where one’s body’s sugar level becomes too high, which is a metabolic disorder. It is medically known as Diabetes Mellitus.





Types of diabetes and their causes

There are three types of diabetes.

1.   Type 1 diabetes

In this type of diabetes Pancreas fails to produce Insulin due to loss of beta cells. It’s a permanent condition. It is also called as Juvenile Diabetes.
What causes this condition is unknown yet. But in some cases, environment and genes are the reason of the problem.

2.   Type 2 diabetes

In the beginning it’s an insulin resistance condition. In his type of diabetes pancreas does not produce enough insulin for body or body fails to use insulin properly. Its also known as Adult Onset Diabetes.
Causes of this type are being overweight or insufficient exercise or it can be a genetic problem also.

3.   Gestational diabetes

This type occurs in pregnant women with no history of diabetes. It’s a temporary condition.
Insulin blocking hormones production in pregnancy is the cause of this type.

Symptoms of Diabetes

Following are some common symptoms of diabetes.

1.   Frequent urination – in diabetes, body produces glucose that can’t be used by body cells due to insulin absence or resistance. And kidneys dilute and eliminate glucose from blood in urine. That’s why a diabetic person has problem of frequent urination.

2.   Intensive thirstiness – if body is eliminating more water in the form of urine, then it has to consume more. It’s a cause of unusual urination after when body needs more water.

3.   Unusual hunger and tiredness – In type 2 diabetes, your body resists insulin and can’t use glucose properly in muscles, fat and other tissues for energy. Consequently, you will feel tired and hungry.

4.   Nausea and vomiting– In diabetes nausea is a sign of Ketoacidosis, this is a dangerous medical condition, which must be treated by physicians.

5.   Foot pain and numbness– high blood pressure for a long time can damage the nerves. It’s called diabetic Neuropathy.

6.   Skin infections and slow heeling cuts and wounds– high blood sugar feeds yeast and infection and it can grow under moist, worm and folded skin especially intimate areas, armpits, between two fingers and toes. Also nerve damage is the reason behind slow heeling cuts and wounds.

7.   Unusual weight loss– if your body can’t get energy from food, it will start burning fat for energy. this way you will lose weight even if you are eating a good amount of food.

8.   Blurred vision–changing fluid level in body can make your lenses swell up, change their shape and lose the ability to focus.

 
Treatment of diabetes

Diabetes is a serious metabolic disease that you can not treat by your own or at home. You have to go to the doctors to the check up and they will make your diabetes treatment plan which will be right for you. You may also need multiple health care specialists like nutritionist, dermatologist, eye doctor.

For type 1 diabetes-

In this type treatment may include
1.   insulin medication
2.   exercise
3.   dietary changes.

For type 2 diabetes-

In this type treatment may include
1.   non-insulin medication
2.   weight reduction
3.   dietary changes

Prevention of diabetes

     Diabetes is a chronic disease which affecting millions of people worldwide. Before diabetes diagnosed, there is a period when body’s blood sugar level is high but not high enough to be diagnosed as a diabetes. This condition called prediabetes.
If you are monitoring your blood sugar, you will be more alert towards prediabetes. It’s is a necessity to prevent diabetes if you are diagnosed with prediabetes. Prevention is as basic as having healthy food or habits. Making simple changes in your lifestyle now may help you avoid serious health conditions of diabetes.
 These are some tips to prevent diabetes.

       1.   Daily workout
       2.   Have less carbs diet.
       3.   Lose extra weight if you are overweight
       4.   Quit smoking
       5.   Have small portion meal time to time
       6.   Drink lots of water
       7.   Avoid processed food
       8.   increase the intake of vitamin D
       9.   have high fiber diet
       10.   drink tea and coffee

with these tips you will surely control your blood sugar hence prevent diabetes.
